SNY Axes Two Shows in Major Staff Cuts

SNY has dropped its SportsNite and Baseball Night in New York programs amid sweeping staff reductions at the New York sports network. Most of its editorial employees were laid off, and its website is being shifted toward a more promotional role with less news content.

The network said it was grateful to the employees who had helped produce its programs over the years. It added that Mets and other New York teams remained central to its business and that it would keep providing content for fans.

SNY will continue its pregame and postgame programs for the Mets and Jets. Mets Hot Stove is also staying on the schedule, as is the Carton Show WFAN simulcast. On-air contributors Chelsea Janes, Ian Begley and Connor Hughes are expected to stay.

SportsNite has been part of SNY since the network launched in 2006. Baseball Night in New York began airing in November 2015. Sal Licata, host of the baseball program, and Eamon McAnaney, a main host of SportsNite, were among those let go.
