RJ Mitte’s Inquest Lists Cause of Death as Suicide

An official inquest record from Cameron County, Texas, lists hanging as the manner of death for actor RJ Mitte, who was 34. He was pronounced dead at 1:32 p.m. on October 12 in Brownsville. His representative had previously confirmed his death was by suicide without giving further details.

The record also shows that an autopsy and toxicology tests were requested; results were not included in the documents obtained by the outlet cited in the reports.

Mitte’s mother, Dyna, said she went to his home with lunch after being unable to reach him by phone. In an interview, she said she had encouraged him for several months to seek therapy. She also said there had been concerns about his mental health among people close to him.

Mitte played Walter White Jr. on AMC’s “Breaking Bad” from 2008 to 2013. He was diagnosed with cerebral palsy as a child and advocated for disability awareness and inclusion. His representative described him as an actor, philanthropist and disability rights advocate, and said he served as a representative of United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children’s.

Bryan Cranston, who played Mitte’s father on “Breaking Bad,” said he was devastated by the loss and recalled staying in touch with Mitte in the weeks before his death. Mitte’s sister, Lacianne Carriere, also paid tribute to him, describing him as a father figure and saying the family had been left grieving.
