Walter Koenig’s Death Certificate Lists Heart and Kidney Conditions
Koenig’s death certificate identifies cardiopulmonary arrest as the immediate cause. Chronic diastolic congestive heart failure is listed as an underlying cause, while acute renal failure is noted as a significant contributing condition. He was 90.
Koenig was cremated on October 30. His final resting place is listed as Hollywood Forever Cemetery, where his son Andrew was also laid to rest after dying by suicide in 2010.
Koenig became widely known as Pavel Chekov on the original Star Trek television series, joining the cast in its second season. He later played the character in seven Star Trek films. His other credits included Babylon 5, Columbo and Futurama.
His agency said he died at his North Hollywood residence, alongside his daughter Danielle and a niece. The agency also remembered his warmth toward fans and his connection to the Star Trek community. William Shatner and George Takei, fellow members of the original series cast, paid tribute to Koenig. Takei described him as a longtime friend and recalled that Koenig was best man at his 2008 wedding.
