La La and Carmelo Anthony Reach Divorce Settlement
La La and Carmelo Anthony have agreed to terms in their divorce, marking a major step in the legal process nearly a decade after they first separated. La La filed for divorce in 2021, citing irreconcilable differences, after the couple had tried to reconcile following their 2017 split. They married in 2010.
The former couple each signed affidavits accepting the terms. Court paperwork also indicates that a certificate of dissolution was issued on November 4, though the settlement still requires a judge’s approval before it becomes a final divorce judgment. The financial terms have not been made public.
A child-support issue is no longer expected to be part of the proceedings because their son, Kiyan, is 19. A qualified medical child-support order remains listed as pending; such an order can require a child to be covered by a parent’s health plan.
La La has previously said public scrutiny made the marriage more difficult, describing the pressure of the spotlight as a factor in its decline. The couple have continued to emphasize their shared focus on Kiyan and co-parenting. In 2023, La La said they wanted their son to see that his parents loved one another and remained a family.
Kiyan is now a sophomore at Syracuse University, where his father played before entering the NBA. The settlement brings the former couple closer to resolving the legal chapter of their relationship, which began in 2003.
