Dafne Keen Recalls Being Offered Cocaine as a Child Actor
On November 4, actor Dafne Keen spoke about adults offering her cocaine at wrap parties while she was a child. Appearing on the Inside of You podcast, she said the offers came when she was around 11, 12 or 13, and that she declined them. Keen said witnessing substance use as a young actor left her with little interest in drinking or drugs.
Now 21, Keen said she still prefers going out sober, even when she stays out late to enjoy music, dancing and company. As a teenager, she sometimes told people she had already taken something to avoid pressure to drink, she said, though she was sober.
Keen also recalled working with Hugh Jackman on Logan, in which she played Laura, also known as X-23, opposite Jackman. She described him as supportive and said he offered encouragement and advice. Keen said Jackman watched out for her working hours, helped ensure she was enjoying the set and kept her away from tensions behind the scenes.
The role in the 2017 film was Keen’s breakthrough. She later led the television adaptation of His Dark Materials, appeared in The Acolyte and reprised X-23 in Deadpool & Wolverine. She is set to portray the goddess Artemis in season three of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series.
