Ricki Lake Says Rosie O’Donnell Changed Her Mind About Facelifts

Lake said O’Donnell initially challenged her decision to have a facelift, asking why she needed one. The two friends have since compared their experiences, and Lake praised O’Donnell’s results during the weekend television discussion.

Lake had a lower face and neck lift in July 2024, along with CO2 laser treatment. She said she chose surgery after losing 40 pounds and being left with loose skin under her chin. Lake has said she wanted to look like herself rather than reverse the effects of aging.

O’Donnell, who had previously spoken against facelifts, underwent a lower face and neck procedure in January 2026 after shedding about 60 pounds across three and a half years with surgery, lifestyle adjustments and weight-loss drugs. She has said excess skin and lines made her face appear sad, even when she felt happy. Her child initially opposed the operation, leading O’Donnell to delay it for several months.

In a May 2026 essay, O’Donnell described reconsidering her views on cosmetic surgery and feminism. She later credited Lake with helping influence her decision. Lake has also welcomed more people speaking openly about plastic surgery.
