Nothing’s First AI Device Will Have No Screen
Nothing plans to launch its first AI-native product in December, CEO Carl Pei announced on X November 4. He described it as a tool shaped by the design sensibility of the company, known for its smartphones, and said it would have no new screen and could not be an app.
Pei did not reveal what the product is or give a firm release date. An image accompanying his post showed the company name above an indistinct black shape. He has previously characterized the device as a productivity tool.
The announcement follows earlier hints that Nothing is developing AI-related products, including smart glasses and earbuds with AI features. Recent speculation has also suggested the company may be considering glasses, including a version without cameras, but Pei’s post did not confirm those plans or connect the December launch to a wearable.
Pei said companies are searching for a defining consumer device for AI, with ideas ranging from pendants and pins to glasses and companions. He argued that looking for an AI equivalent of the iPhone is the wrong approach. Nothing’s product is due next month, when the company is expected to reveal what the screen-free device does.
