Apple’s Home Robot Could Be Delayed Until 2028
Apple’s still-developing home robot may not reach customers until 2027 at the earliest, and its launch could slip to 2028. The device, known internally as J595, is being developed as a more mobile companion to the company’s new HomeView smart display. It could carry a price tag of about $1,000 or higher.
The robot’s hardware has reportedly been finished for roughly two years, but its software remains a hurdle. The software team has pushed to delay the product and narrow its planned capabilities, concentrating on FaceTime and automating household jobs such as turning on lights. Apple CEO John Ternus is said to be encouraging the company’s robotics work.
The device is described as having a nine-inch screen on a robotic arm, along with cameras and sensors. It could move around the home and follow a person during a FaceTime call. Apple’s engineers have spent years developing the software and adding AI capabilities, while also seeking functions that could support the high price. The project’s first prototypes date to 2018, and former CEO Tim Cook approved its continued development.
