Balogun Added to Monaco’s Conference League Squad
Balogun’s name appeared among Monaco’s forwards on the UEFA squad list on November 3. He takes the place of Ansu Fati, who was injured against Lille on October 25 and is expected to miss two months with a hamstring problem.
Balogun had initially been left off the European roster while Monaco considered a possible transfer. A move to Everton fell through on September 1 after the English club raised concerns about his medical, and Monaco later failed to find a buyer in a league whose transfer window was still open.
The 25-year-old has made five appearances for Monaco this season, all as a substitute. He scored his first goal of the campaign on Sunday in a 3-1 defeat at Paris FC, playing 45 minutes in his longest appearance of the season.
Monaco has won its first two Conference League matches, against CSKA Sofia and Freiburg. Its upcoming league-phase opponents include FC Nordsjælland on Thursday, followed by Hearts, Brighton and Lincoln Red Imps.
Balogun has also been named in the United States’ 25-player squad for its coming Concacaf Nations League quarterfinals against Haiti. He was left out of the national team’s September-October roster after a spell without playing, while younger forwards Justin Ellis, Julian Hall and Cavan Sullivan made their debuts.
