New Jersey Gynecologist Charged in Alleged Assaults on Three Patients
Burlington County prosecutors said on November 2 that Jerome Check, a gynecologist from Melrose Park, Pennsylvania, faces three counts of second-degree sexual assault. The alleged assaults took place during appointments at his Mount Laurel office between December 2024 and March 2025, prosecutors said. The case is expected to go before a grand jury for possible indictment.
Investigators allege Check was alone with the patients in examination rooms. Two patients believed their visits would be for information and did not expect an invasive examination, prosecutors said. Officers detained Check during September and he was freed after appearing in Superior Court in Mount Holly.
Check’s attorney, Robin Lord, said Check is innocent and disputed the allegations. Lord argued that the account of a patient not anticipating a gynecological examination was implausible and criticized prosecutors for filing charges. Check is listed as a reproductive endocrinologist and infertility specialist, and teaches obstetrics and gynecology at Rowan University's Cooper Medical School. Cooper had no immediate comment.
Authorities are seeking information about other possible victims. Anyone with information can contact the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office at 609-265-5035 and request to speak with an investigator from its Special Victims Unit, or send a tip online or by email to [email protected].
