HBO Renews Sharon Horgan Comedy Youth for Season Two

HBO has ordered a second season of Youth, the comedy created by and starring Sharon Horgan. The renewal came less than a day after the first-season finale, which left Horgan’s character, Alex, facing personal and professional crossroads. HBO has not announced when the new season will arrive.

The series follows Alex as she tries to revive her love life while caring for her ailing parents and raising her son, who is struggling with the transition to adulthood. Rupert Friend, Sharlene Whyte, Aran Murphy and Robbie Gee also star. The first season is streaming on HBO Max.

Horgan said she was grateful for the audience response and pleased to return with the cast and creative team. She joked that HBO was a fitting place to air the show’s “UTI problems.” Amy Gravitt, HBO’s head of comedy programming, praised the series for blending laughter and emotion and welcomed the ensemble back.

Horgan also writes and executive produces Youth. Faye Dorn, Jim Kleverweis and Dawn Shadforth are executive producers; Shadforth directed four of the first season’s eight episodes, with Jim O’Hanlon directing the other four. The production is from Horgan’s company, Merman. HBO said the series ranks among its five biggest comedy launches globally.
