Eagles’ Six-Game Slide Puts Sirianni Under Pressure

Philadelphia’s slide continued with a 27-10 defeat by the Washington Commanders on November 1, leaving the Eagles 2-6 and with six losses in a row. The team had entered the season with Super Bowl expectations, but its offense has struggled through a season disrupted by injuries.

Running back Saquon Barkley, who is dealing with hamstring and back injuries, gained 30 yards and scored a touchdown on 13 carries. “We’re not the big, bad Eagles anymore,” he said after the game, adding that the team needed to recognize its situation. Barkley has said he wants to remain in Philadelphia and help the Eagles contend again.

Quarterback Tanner McKee threw for 212 yards, with no touchdowns and one interception. The Eagles have averaged 15 points and 270.3 yards in his three starts filling in for Jalen Hurts. Against Washington, Philadelphia managed 10 points despite facing a defense that had been allowing 28.7 points per game.

Coach Nick Sirianni said the team’s task was to address its problems, and expressed confidence in the players and coaches. He did not say whether offensive coordinator Sean Mannion would keep calling plays. Philadelphia also faces questions about its run game and pass protection, with offensive tackle Jordan Mailata saying the team cannot win without improving in both areas.

The Eagles host the division-rival Giants on November 8. At 4-2-1, New York is in position to lead the NFC East, making the matchup a significant test for Philadelphia’s hopes of turning its season around.
