Glenn focuses on fixing struggling Jets as pressure mounts
Glenn said on November 2 that improving the Jets week by week, rather than considering his job security, was his focus. New York is 2-6 and has lost three in a row. Glenn’s record since taking over is 5-20, and he acknowledged that winning is essential, with nine games remaining this season.
The latest losses came at home. The Jets fell 28-25 to Miami, which had been winless, then lost 38-33 to Las Vegas after surrendering a fourth-quarter lead. New York scored on its first six offensive possessions against the Raiders, but allowed a 95-yard kickoff return touchdown soon after taking a second-quarter lead.
There were bright spots in the defeat. Braelon Allen rushed for a career-best 147 yards and a touchdown, while Adonai Mitchell had career highs of 142 receiving yards and seven catches, plus a touchdown. The Jets gained a season-high 166 yards on the ground, with left guard Dylan Parham back from a four-game absence.
Glenn identified red-zone execution as an area to address: the Jets scored touchdowns on just two of six trips inside the Raiders’ 20-yard line. They also need to improve their performance in the final two minutes of first halves, when they have been outscored 107-9 under Glenn. Center Josh Myers said the team left points on the field.
Running back Breece Hall, sidelined for five games with a quadriceps injury, is nearing a return. Glenn said Hall remains part of the team despite trade speculation. The Jets’ next opponents are Kansas City, which is 5-2, and 6-1 Buffalo. General manager Darren Mougey also faces a decision on whether to trade players before the November 10 deadline.
