Jets’ Trade Picks Put Three Top-10 Selections in Reach
The Jets could have three of the first 10 picks in the 2027 NFL Draft after all three teams tied to last season’s major trades lost on Sunday. New York currently sits at 2-6 after a 38-33 defeat to the Las Vegas Raiders. Indianapolis is also 2-6, while Dallas is 3-5 following an overtime loss to Arizona. The Jets’ own position would give them the No. 5 pick, with the Colts’ and Cowboys’ records putting their selections at No. 6 and No. 10, respectively.
If those positions hold, no team will have started a draft with three top-10 picks since the current draft format was introduced. The Jets obtained the extra first-round selections in separate trades last season. They sent cornerback Sauce Gardner to Indianapolis for receiver Adonai Mitchell and first-round picks in 2026 and 2027. Defensive tackle Quinnen Williams went to Dallas in exchange for Mazi Smith, a 2026 second-round selection, plus the Cowboys’ 2027 first-rounder.
Indianapolis had added Gardner and Dallas had acquired Williams in hopes of strengthening their teams as playoff contenders. The Colts have since fired general manager Chris Ballard and traded Quenton Nelson and DeForest Buckner; Jonathan Taylor could also be moved. Both franchises are struggling, leaving New York positioned to use the picks on young players or trade up in the 2027 draft without surrendering additional assets.
The Jets’ defeat came at MetLife Stadium, while the Colts lost 42-7 to Jacksonville and the Cowboys fell 33-30 to Arizona. The draft order remains provisional, based on the teams’ current records.
