Jets Fall to Raiders After Fourth-Quarter Collapse

The Jets built a 23-14 halftime lead and put points on the board during all six of their opening offensive drives, but could not hold off Las Vegas. The loss was New York’s third straight, and five of its six defeats this season have been by one score.

Quarterback Geno Smith threw for 290 yards and two touchdowns, while running back Braelon Allen rushed for 147 yards and a score. The Jets gained 424 yards, but settled for four field goals in the red zone and converted only four of 11 third downs.

The Raiders took control in the second half, scoring three touchdowns to move ahead 35-30. Kirk Cousins threw for 247 yards and three touchdowns, and Las Vegas converted six of nine third downs. The Jets’ defense recorded one sack and did not force a turnover.

New York cut the deficit to two with a field goal late in the fourth quarter. The Raiders answered with a 53-yard field goal, leaving the Jets 27 seconds and no timeouts. Smith’s final pass was intercepted. Coach Aaron Glenn said the defense needed to improve and pointed to critical penalties and a kickoff touchdown allowed. The Jets visit the Kansas City Chiefs next.
