Squarespace to Cut About 300 Jobs in Workforce Restructuring
The website-building company said the reductions are part of a restructuring intended to streamline its organization and clarify priorities. CEO Anthony Casalena told employees that the company needs smaller teams, more hands-on managers and a simpler structure as its business changes. He said the move was not aimed at meeting a financial target.
Affected employees will receive at least 16 weeks of base pay, with additional pay based on tenure, as well as benefits through May 2027. The company also outlined career and job-search assistance, extra support for employees on work visas and the option to keep company laptops. Some departing staff may receive payment tied to a November 20 vesting date for legacy stock awards.
The cuts come as website creation tools evolve alongside generative AI. Squarespace introduced its Blueprint AI website-building tool in 2024 and has announced Forma, an AI-focused platform that is not yet generally available. The company was acquired by private equity firm Permira in a $7 billion deal in 2024, after going public in 2021.
