Taylor Swift Says Her ‘Napoleon Dynamite’ Impressions Continue
Swift discussed the running joke during a New York City question-and-answer session with Toy Story 5 director Andrew Stanton, held after a screening of the film. She connected its characters Bonnie and Blaze with her own friendship with Anderson, whom she met after moving to Nashville as a teenager.
Swift recalled that the two bonded in school and began speaking to each other in the style of Napoleon Dynamite, the 2004 film starring Jon Heder. She said they have kept up the impressions over the years, even though their spouses have to put up with them.
To illustrate, Swift briefly performed an exchange in the voice of Heder’s character. She said the friendship mattered because Anderson accepts her at her most unusual, and that the connection echoed what she found moving about the film.
Swift and Anderson have remained close since high school. Swift has also spoken warmly about her relationship with husband Travis Kelce. In an earlier interview, Kelce praised her ability to make large audiences feel personally connected to her performances and said the couple share important values.
