SpaceX Weighs Boost Mobile Deal to Expand Wireless Reach

SpaceX is considering a deal with EchoStar that would let it enter the U.S. wireless market through Boost Mobile. The options discussed include buying the budget carrier or gaining access to its network, which could give SpaceX a faster route to offering mobile service under its Starlink brand.

Boost Mobile does not operate its own cell towers. It leases network capacity from AT&T and T-Mobile, and those companies may need to approve a change in ownership or use. The network agreements may not automatically transfer. SpaceX has also sought access to capacity from AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon, but the carriers have declined, according to accounts of the discussions.

SpaceX is developing a service that would combine satellite connections with ground-based cellular coverage. It acquired wireless spectrum rights from EchoStar in 2025 and has recently sought access to U.S. cell sites. Boost Mobile had about 7.5 million subscribers at the end of 2025, far fewer than the three largest U.S. carriers, each of which has more than 100 million. No agreement has been confirmed.
