Yella Beezy Murder Trial Enters Second Week

On November 2, the capital murder trial of Dallas rapper Yella Beezy, whose legal name is Markies Conway, entered its second week. Conway has pleaded not guilty to allegations that he paid Kewon White $40,000 to kill fellow rapper Melvin Noble Jr., known as MO3, in a 2020 shooting in Dallas.

Jurors have heard from witnesses who described the shooting on Interstate 35 and the response at the scene. Dr. Randall Graham testified that he was injured by shrapnel and glass, then performed CPR on Noble. Crime scene investigators described collecting evidence, including $17,960 in cash from Noble’s vehicle; they said no firearms were found in it.

White, identified as the gunman, was convicted of capital murder in September 2026 and sentenced to life in prison. Prosecutors have also presented evidence about a cash withdrawal Conway allegedly made before the killing, and a hotel employee testified that Conway appeared on the booking as another occupant for a November 2020 stay. The prosecution says some of Conway’s lyrics are relevant to the case.

The trial’s expected testimony from Theodore Thomas, known as rapper Jose Bodega, did not unfold as prosecutors anticipated. Thomas invoked his Fifth Amendment right repeatedly when questioned about his prior grand jury testimony, and was excused while being told to remain available. Thomas has since claimed that he lied to the grand jury.

Prosecutors still must persuade jurors that Conway paid for the killing. A verdict could come as early as the following week. Devin Brown, whom prosecutors accuse of helping White track Noble and communicating with him, is expected to face trial later in November.
