Chase’s Sideline Frustration Fails to Rattle Bengals Coach

Cincinnati rallied from an early 13-0 deficit to beat Tennessee 43-36 in overtime at Paycor Stadium on November 1. Ja’Marr Chase’s visible frustration during the game, including throwing down his helmet, drew attention alongside the Bengals’ comeback victory.

Chase declined to explain why Cincinnati has had slow starts this season, directing reporters to Taylor. The wide receiver finished with 11 catches on 16 targets for 141 yards and a touchdown. He also said Tennessee had been unable to cover both him and teammate Tee Higgins, who recorded 155 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Taylor said Chase could be angry with him or others without changing the coach’s confidence in the receiver. He described the outburst as part of an emotional game and said the two would work through it. Chase also made a key contribution late, then helped the Bengals seal the overtime win with his performance.

The outburst followed another instance of Chase urging the Bengals to improve. In the previous game, Cincinnati trailed Baltimore 13-0 at halftime before scoring three unanswered second-half touchdowns to win 35-13. Tight end Mike Gesicki said Monday that Chase’s urgency and vocal leadership reflected his desire for the team to reach its potential.

The win lifted Cincinnati to 5-2. The Bengals are scheduled to face the Atlanta Falcons in Madrid next week.
