Three Injured in Shooting Near West Philadelphia SEPTA Station

A shooting near SEPTA’s 56th Street station in West Philadelphia on November 1 left three people wounded, among them a boy aged 14. The gunfire erupted at about 6:45 p.m. near the Market-Frankford Line stop, while the victims were heading toward stairs leading to the platform, police said. Surveillance video captured a suspect shooting at the three men, authorities said.

A man aged 26 suffered five gunshot wounds and was in critical condition at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center. The teenager sustained two wounds to his left arm and two to his right thigh. Another man, 25, received one gunshot wound to his right arm and two to his back. The two men were in stable condition at the hospital.

Police said they did not know whether the three victims were acquainted or which person the shooter meant to target. An inspector said the teenager seemed to be with one of the adult victims. SEPTA said one person was hit inside the station’s ground-level vestibule, then ran to the platform, where he fell. The agency said the shooting happened outside the station.

SEPTA trains passed the station while the investigation was underway. Police had made no arrests, and authorities asked anyone with information to contact Philadelphia police or submit an anonymous tip. The accounts of the investigation differed on whether a weapon had been recovered, so no weapon detail is included here.
