Washington Takes Lead as Jeanty Gets Two Carries
The Raiders beat the Jets 38-33 on November 1, but the running backs’ sharply different workloads became a focus after the game. Washington carried 25 times for 83 yards; Jeanty had two carries for nine yards, his lowest rushing total of the season. Las Vegas finished with 95 rushing yards.
Jeanty also caught three passes for 64 yards, including a 45-yard gain. He said the coaching staff had told him before the game that he would get fewer touches. Asked how he felt about the reduced workload, he said the win mattered most.
Coach Klint Kubiak said the decision to give Washington more opportunities was his and denied that Jeanty’s pregame remarks about Jets players’ tackling played a part. Jeanty had said some opposing players did not want to tackle, without naming anyone. Kubiak said Jeanty would remain an important part of the team’s run game, and that both backs would contribute going forward.
The reduced workload follows a season-long decline in Jeanty’s carries since his opening game, when he ran 23 times for 102 yards. Washington, meanwhile, had his season highs in carries and rushing yards against New York and made his first start of the season over Jeanty.
Kubiak did not say whether Sunday’s roles would continue. He said the team would review the game film. The Raiders next face the San Francisco 49ers, where Jeanty’s workload will be worth watching.
