Jackson Injured on First Snap as Ravens Fall to Bills
Jackson’s return after missing three weeks with a high ankle sprain lasted one play. Buffalo edge rusher Greg Rousseau struck his hand as Jackson threw, and the Ravens quarterback left the game. Coach Jesse Minter said Jackson needs surgery and will be placed on injured reserve; he said the injury could end Jackson’s season.
Baltimore’s quarterback troubles deepened when Tyler Huntley left with a toe injury. Undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano then made his NFL debut, completing 10 of 21 passes. He finished the game despite saying afterward that he was not fully healthy. Running back Justice Hill was designated as the team’s fourth quarterback.
The Ravens’ offense struggled to find rhythm, and wide receiver Zay Flowers was held without a catch for the first time in his career. The defense kept the game close until the second half, but Baltimore fell to 4-4. The loss left the team with four days to prepare for its next game, at home against Jacksonville on November 5.
Players described a subdued locker room after Jackson’s injury. Right tackle Roger Rosengarten said he felt responsible for the opening-play pressure that allowed Rousseau to reach Jackson. Running back Derrick Henry said the team would have to prepare with whichever players were available, with nine games remaining.
Huntley’s toe injury could also keep him out, and the team said it would assess Fagnano after the game. Baltimore may need to find another quarterback before facing Jacksonville.
