Man Dies After Electric Vehicle Crashes and Burns in Chicago

The man was operating a dark electric car along the 11300 block of South Western Avenue at about 12:47 a.m. when he lost control and struck a tree, police said. The crash happened near Kennedy Park, in an area identified as Beverly or Morgan Park in accounts of the incident.

The vehicle caught fire immediately, and the driver was unable to get out. Firefighters extinguished the blaze and found him not responding inside the car. He was declared dead at the location.

The man was the only person in the vehicle. The car was identified at the scene as a Tesla. The Chicago Police Department’s unit that probes major collisions was looking into the wreck on Sunday morning.
