American Airlines Restarts Daily Miami–Cap-Haïtien Flights

American Airlines began daily nonstop service between Miami International Airport and Cap-Haïtien International Airport on November 1. The first flight was scheduled to leave at 10 a.m. aboard a Boeing 737, with an all-Haitian crew. Miami-Dade County leaders and airport officials planned a ceremony at the airport to mark the service’s return.

A major U.S. airline had not been allowed to fly to Haiti during the previous two years. Service is returning to Cap-Haïtien, while flights to and from Port-au-Prince remain banned.

Travelers at Miami International Airport welcomed the new route. Mynita Morency said she was eager to board and return to her country. Daniel Moise said traveling to Haiti had been difficult because the northern airport was the only one open.

In 2024, the Federal Aviation Administration prohibited flights to Port-au-Prince for 30 days after gunmen shot at aircraft.
