Tamara Tunie wins Daytime Emmy for ‘Beyond the Gates’

Tunie, who plays Anita Dupree on ‘Beyond the Gates,’ received the lead actress honor at the ceremony held at the Hollywood Palladium. The series debuted in 2025 and features a primarily Black cast, the first daytime soap to do so since ‘Generations.’ It is the first new network soap since 1999.

Tunie returned to daytime television after leaving ‘As the World Turns’ in 2009. Accepting her award, she credited Black actresses who had paved the way and called the win a welcome back to the genre.

Her co-star Ambyr Michelle won the emerging talent award for her role as Eva Thomas. ‘Beyond the Gates’ also received awards for lighting direction and hairstyling and makeup, bringing its total to four. The show has been renewed through the 2027-28 season.

Daytime acting honors went to Roger Howarth and Beth Maitland for their performances in the CBS drama. Howarth’s first Daytime Emmy came in 1994, while Maitland’s first win was in 1982, the year she began playing Traci Abbott.

Other winners included Tracee Ellis Ross for travel and adventure programming, Jeff Kober for a guest performance in ‘General Hospital,’ and Ina Garten for culinary hosting. Sherri Shepherd and Kelly Clarkson won for daytime talk categories, though both shows have ended and neither host attended. The ceremony was streamed live for the second consecutive year.
