Wizards Rout Hornets as Dybantsa Shines in Home Debut
Trae Young recorded 21 points, nine assists and seven rebounds, while Anthony Davis added 25 points and 13 rebounds as Washington opened its NBA Cup play with a win. Dybantsa, the top pick in this year’s draft, also collected eight rebounds in his second game of the season and first in front of Washington’s home crowd.
Charlotte led by 10 in the first quarter, but its shooting faltered. After making four of its first 10 three-point attempts, the Hornets hit only four of their next 29 from beyond the arc. They finished at 29.7% from the field and 12 of 56 on threes.
Washington held Charlotte to 13 points in the third quarter and pulled away in the second half. Dybantsa drew an “MVP! MVP!” chant after scoring through contact late in the game. Brandon Miller led Charlotte with 19 points, and Naz Reid finished with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Charlotte has also gone without Kon Knueppel and Coby White all season, while Grant Williams has been sidelined with a hamstring injury. Charlotte hosts Philadelphia on October 31. Washington visits Orlando on November 2.
