Bears Acquire Jeffery Simmons in Blockbuster Defensive Trade
The Chicago Bears brought in defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons after sending the Tennessee Titans their 2027 and 2028 first-round picks and a 2027 fourth-round pick. Chicago also received a 2028 fifth-round selection. Simmons, 29, had spent his entire NFL career with Tennessee, which is 1-6 this season. The Bears are 5-2 and pursuing the NFC North lead.
Through seven games, Simmons has recorded four sacks this season and was a first-team All-Pro last year, when he recorded a career-high 11 sacks. Bears general manager Ryan Poles said he believes championship contenders need a standout interior defensive lineman. Simmons said Chicago’s confidence in its roster and desire to win immediately appealed to him.
The move reunites Simmons with defensive lineman Montez Sweat, his former teammate at Mississippi State. Simmons is expected to make his Chicago debut Monday night against Seattle, though his playing time will depend on how quickly he learns the team’s playbook and game plan. He said he was eager to get on the field and help the Bears win.
