Inquest finds singer Lauren Bennett died by suicide

Bennett’s husband, actor and choreographer Kenny Wormald, became concerned when she did not return from the walk she had planned that morning. He and her father, Richard, searched for her; Wormald used a phone-location feature to help find her in wooded ground about a 15-minute walk from their home. The inquest concluded that she died by suicide.

Assistant Coroner Jyoti Gill found that Bennett’s mental health had worsened from January 2026. The hearing was told she received psychiatric care from January 16 to 23 after going several days without sleep, and was later prescribed medication. Her father said she had experienced adverse reactions to medication and had stopped taking it weeks before her death. Toxicology testing found no substances of significance.

The court heard that searches of Bennett’s home found letters indicating intent in a bedside drawer. A member of an early psychosis intervention team said Bennett had not disclosed plans to harm herself and had not been referred to a crisis team. Wormald told the hearing that, although she spoke openly with him, she had not described plans to end her life.

Bennett was 36 and had been known for her contribution to LMFAO’s 2011 hit and her membership in the group G.R.L. She and Wormald had a daughter. Her father later expressed disappointment with the care she received from medical professionals and the NHS in the months before her death, while saying the family had no suspicions about the circumstances.
