Gas Main Break Prompts Katy Shelter-in-Place and Road Closure

Harris County emergency officials issued an indoor safety alert at about 10:30 a.m. on October 30 after a gas line ruptured beside the Morton Ranch Road–Bridge Lake Boulevard junction in Katy. Residents and businesses within a half-mile of the intersection are affected.

People in the area were told to go inside, shut their windows and doors, and stay there until officials give the all-clear. The alert applies to nearby residents and businesses while emergency crews respond to the break.

Traffic cannot use Morton Ranch Road in either direction through the affected zone. Drivers have been urged to avoid the intersection, choose other roads and leave emergency personnel unobstructed. Officials have not confirmed how long the shelter-in-place alert or road closure will remain in effect.
