Suspicious Package Closes Valencia Street in San Francisco

An officer noticed an unusual parcel at the Mission Police Station at about 8:10 p.m. on Thursday, prompting police to close Valencia Street between 17th and 18th streets as they investigated. Additional police resources were brought to the scene.

At about 8:20 p.m., the city’s emergency management department advised residents to avoid the area. The closure applied to both vehicle and pedestrian traffic. An autonomous vehicle was visible behind yellow police tape while officers kept the street clear.

Police gave the all-clear at around 9:20 p.m., and traffic and pedestrians were allowed to return to the area. The package was deemed safe; police did not disclose what it contained.
