Raskin Demands Kushner Recuse Himself Over Foreign Money Allegations
Rep. Jamie Raskin, the committee’s senior Democrat, is calling on Jared Kushner to stop negotiating or representing the United States until he provides records about his contacts with and payments from foreign governments. Raskin made the demand in a letter dated October 30, citing allegations that Kushner received billions of dollars linked to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
Raskin Presses Kushner for Answers on Alleged Foreign Government Payments
Jared Kushner should not represent the United States in sensitive negotiations while questions remain about his financial ties abroad. Rep. Jamie Raskin, the committee’s senior Democrat, demanded on October 30 that Kushner recuse himself from diplomatic work until he provides records concerning contacts with and payments from foreign governments.
Raskin cited allegations that Kushner received billions of dollars connected to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, and said five governments may hold compromising information about him. Kushner has rejected the allegations, calling them fabrications and saying the transactions never happened.
House Democrats cannot issue subpoenas while in the minority. Raskin signaled that a Democratic-led Judiciary Committee would investigate if Democrats regain control of the chamber. He has also raised concerns about Kushner’s work as a ceasefire negotiator and a proposed luxury resort in Albania, saying his earlier inquiries went unanswered.
The White House and Kushner’s representatives directed questioners to previous public comments. Kushner’s investment company, Affinity Partners, had not yet answered a request for comment.
Raskin Uses Foreign Money Claims to Challenge Trump Envoy Kushner
Rep. Jamie Raskin is using allegations about Jared Kushner’s finances to demand that President Donald Trump’s son-in-law withdraw from U.S. diplomatic work. The senior Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee called for Kushner to provide financial records about foreign government contacts and payments before negotiating or representing the United States.
Raskin cited claims that Kushner received billions of dollars linked to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, and asserted that five foreign governments may possess compromising information about him. Kushner has denied the allegations, calling them fabrications and saying the transactions never occurred.
The demand comes from a Judiciary Democrat who cannot compel testimony or documents while his party is in the House minority. Raskin has indicated that the committee could investigate if Democrats take back the chamber. He has also pursued inquiries into Kushner’s ceasefire negotiating role and a planned luxury resort in Albania, which he says have gone unanswered.
Officials at the White House and Kushner’s team referred people to previous public comments. Affinity Partners did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
