Gun Found in Halloween Candy Box at Washington School

A firearm was discovered among Halloween treats at KIPP DC Grow Academy’s Shaw Campus in Washington on October 29, while staff were preparing to distribute treats during a fall festival. The academy serves prekindergarten and kindergarten students, and families had been asked to provide allergy-conscious, commercially packaged treats for the event.

A staff member discovered the gun while preparing the candy. School staff secured it and contacted D.C. police. Officers responded on October 29 to the campus at 400 P Street Northwest.

The school said no students encountered the gun or knew it was there. No injuries were reported, and all students and staff remained safe. The academy notified families and informed staff in the building.

Police are investigating how the gun ended up in the candy box. No arrests have been made, and the firearm’s owner has not been identified.
