Five-year-old shot inside Detroit home after trick-or-treating
Police said officers learned of the shooting around 9 p.m. on October 31, when they went to Children’s Hospital of Michigan to meet the child’s parents. Investigators traced the incident to a home on Iroquois Street, near Moffat Avenue in Detroit. The girl had just returned from trick-or-treating and was playing in a back room when gunfire entered the house, police said.
The child, still wearing her Halloween costume, hurried to her mother, who was taking a shower, and told her she thought she had been shot. Her mother rushed her to the hospital. Police said the girl was in stable condition.
Deputy Chief Arnold Williams called the shooting senseless and said the child could have been killed. Police said they were working to identify and find whoever fired the shots. As October 31 drew to a close, nobody had been taken into custody, and investigators were continuing to examine what happened.
People who know anything about the incident may reach the Detroit Police Department’s 7th Precinct at 313-596-5700 or Crime Stoppers of Michigan at 1-800-773-2587. Police also said tipsters could call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
