Philippine Police Get Warrant to Examine Thomas Markle’s Devices
The warrant allows police in Cebu, Philippines, to examine digital material recovered from devices belonging to Thomas Markle, 82, as part of an investigation into allegations that he possessed child sexual abuse images and videos. His son, Thomas Markle Jr., says he found the material among boxes at his father’s home in July and reported it to local police and the FBI in the United States.
Markle Sr. denies the allegations, calling them “sick lies.” He has also denied being the man shown in a photograph his son says he found.
Philippine Interior Minister Jonvic Remulla previously said forensic work was expected to take about a week. The country’s anti-trafficking task force is investigating, and the FBI has contacted Philippine authorities and is considering a joint inquiry.
Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, said she was distressed by the allegations and hoped the authorities would ensure justice and protect children. She said a letter containing allegations about her father was sent to the Metropolitan Police in 2018 and later shared with her. The UK force has said it is investigating the claims; it has not previously investigated Markle Sr and is not currently probing him, the report said.
