Georgia Tech Falls to Louisville as Offensive Problems Persist
Georgia Tech’s struggles continued with a 44-17 home loss to Louisville on November 7. The Yellow Jackets have fallen well short of last season’s 9-4 mark after losing quarterback Haynes King and 26 seniors, and the defeat raised further questions about the team’s direction and whether it can reach a bowl game.
The offense again struggled to establish the run. Georgia Tech managed only three rushing yards in the first half, and leading rusher Justice Haynes finished with eight yards on three carries. The team had more success on the ground later, when the game was already out of reach. The lack of production has also contributed to pressure on the offense and difficult situations on passing downs.
Georgia Tech converted four of 16 third-down attempts. Pressures, inaccurate throws and drops contributed to the missed opportunities, while limited gains on earlier downs often left the Yellow Jackets facing long third downs. The team has also continued to have problems with communication, tackling and pass protection.
One bright spot was Isaiah Fuhrmann’s first touchdown catch for Georgia Tech. He caught four passes for 37 yards and a score, showing he could contribute despite earlier drops and a limited impact this season. The team has a 2027 recruiting class described as solid, but the loss intensified calls for changes to the team and possibly its coaching staff. Coach Brent Key has said he does not favor making in-season changes.
