Mirror Fiction Awards Two Taiwanese and Malaysian Authors
Mirror Fiction gave its fifth biennial awards to two authors at Taiwan Creative Content Fest on November 7, awarding NT$1 million to The Stand-In Family and NT$700,000 to Endless Rain. Both works can receive development support for publication and possible film or television adaptations through the Taiwanese literary IP company.
The Grand Prize-winning suspense story centers on strangers posing as a family in a house where a murder occurred. The Jury Prize was awarded to Malaysian author Liang Xuan for the novel Endless Rain, set in an ethnic Chinese town in Ipoh. Its plot follows a mysterious woman who returns more than two decades after she was believed to have been murdered.
Mirror Fiction chief executive Tung Cheng-yu said the awards aim to support writers and bring promising literary works to potential investors. Tung also cited figures suggesting audiences for book-based films exceeded attendance for original films by more than 40%, whereas adapted television series attracted nearly 60% more viewers.
The competition received 529 submissions, amounting to over 40 million Chinese characters. The company also presented projects planned for its 2027 slate, including a romance about former partners reconnecting, a crime thriller involving a massage therapist, and a story about brothers who exchange identities. One of the slate’s novels has already secured a screen adaptation deal.
