Jets GM Speaks With Oklahoma State Coordinator About Mestemaker
New York Jets general manager Darren Mougey was seen speaking with Oklahoma State offensive coordinator Sean Brophy during the Cowboys’ game on November 7. The subject of their conversation was not disclosed, but the Jets have three picks in the top 10 of the 2027 NFL Draft and may be assessing quarterback Drew Mestemaker, who has emerged as a leading prospect.
Mestemaker is ranked second on ESPN analyst Mel Kiper Jr.’s draft board, behind Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith. In a survey of 25 NFL scouts and executives, 17 identified Mestemaker as the quarterback most likely to be selected first overall.
In eight games this season, Mestemaker has connected on 65.5% of his throws, accumulating 2,649 yards and 25 scores, while throwing seven interceptions. On the ground, he has gained 166 yards and scored twice.
His path to Oklahoma State’s starting role began at North Texas, where he joined as a walk-on quarterback in 2024 and became the starter the following year. He earned American Conference Offensive Player of the Year honors in 2025 after throwing for 4,379 yards and 34 touchdowns, completing 68.9% of his passes and throwing nine interceptions. In high school, he was a reserve quarterback and also played safety and punter.
