Nanny Called Sister Before Fatal Learjet Flight
Anita Maria Cetina spoke with her sister Angie shortly before the Learjet departed for the Bahamas. During the video call, Cetina showed her the children she cared for and the aircraft, her sister said. Cetina was excited about the trip and had never visited the Bahamas, her sister added, saying she seemed to enjoy the work as well as the journey.
Cetina, 24, was traveling with the Robinson family, who had chartered the jet, along with two pilots and two adult friends. The crash near West Palm Beach killed all nine people aboard. The flight was traveling from Austin, Texas, toward the Bahamas, and investigators are examining what caused it.
The dead included Jeffrey Gregory, 55, who piloted the aircraft, and Nathalia Gadelha Filgueiras, 20, who served as co-pilot. Also killed were Adam Robinson and his wife, Helen Sharp, their children Emma, 4, and Charlie, 2, and friends Rachael Reed and Charmi Fehr.
Residents called 911 after hearing an explosion and feeling a nearby house shake. One caller said sparks and smoke were visible. The impact left a large crater surrounded by scattered wreckage.
Air traffic control audio captured Filgueiras reporting a rapid descent and declaring an emergency as the jet lost control. The controller tried to reassure her. Investigators are working to establish the cause of the crash.
