Adam Driver Won’t Return for the Girls Revival

Adam Driver will not appear in HBO’s planned revival of Girls, the actor said in an interview published on November 6. Asked whether he would return as Adam Sackler, he replied, “No, but I wish them the best of luck.”

The five-episode series was announced in October. Lena Dunham, who created and starred in the original, is returning, with Williams, Kirke, Mamet and Rannells also joining the cast. Production is scheduled to start in 2027. Driver portrayed Sackler, who was in an intermittent relationship with Dunham’s character, Hannah Horvath, throughout the show’s six-season run from 2012 to 2017.

Dunham has discussed her experience working with Driver in her 2026 memoir, Famesick. She described him as verbally aggressive during filming and claimed he hurled a chair against a wall close to her. In an April interview, Dunham said she had not felt able to tell him that he could not speak to her that way. When asked about the claims at Cannes, Driver declined to comment and joked that he was saving his response for a book.
