Adam Driver Says His Kylo Ren Return Is Over

Adam Driver says he is done playing Kylo Ren in Star Wars, after Disney declined a proposed film centered on the character. Asked on The Rich Eisen Show whether he might return, Driver replied, “Yeah. It’s over,” and added, “No more Star Wars.” He said the studio had rejected another project because the character was dead.

The film, titled The Hunt for Ben Solo, was developed by Driver and director Steven Soderbergh, who was slated to helm it. Driver said they spent about two years working on a script with Scott Burns and Rebecca Blunt. He described the screenplay as good, but said the decision was not his to make.

Driver previously said Lucasfilm liked the idea and understood the team’s approach. But when the proposal went to Disney leaders Bob Iger and Alan Bergman, they turned it down, saying they did not see how Ben Solo could be alive in the wake of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Asked whether he would take part if the project were revived, Driver said he would be open to it, but it was not up to him. “I think the ship has sailed, though,” he said.

He also praised the fan campaign supporting the film, saying he had not expected billboards or a plane banner over Walt Disney Studios in Burbank. In April, Soderbergh expressed a similar view, saying the movie would have been made had it been destined to proceed.
