Pritzker to Pause Public Events After Outpatient Procedure
Pritzker is scheduled to undergo an outpatient urology procedure on Monday, November 9, and will step away from public events as he recovers. His office said he will continue carrying out his duties during that time and expects to resume public appearances soon.
A spokesman described the procedure as the standard final follow-up to the same procedure Pritzker had in May. After that earlier procedure, the governor’s office also said he would keep fulfilling his duties while pausing public events. Pritzker was treated overnight at a hospital following a minor complication in May and was then sent home.
The announcement comes three days after Pritzker won a third term as governor, defeating Republican Darren Bailey by nearly 23 percentage points. He has also said he dropped 80 pounds while using a GLP-1 medication and exercising.
In a September interview, Pritzker said he considers his health information private but would disclose anything that threatened his life or affected his ability to do the job. He has been mentioned as a potential Democratic presidential contender in 2028, but on November 4 he declined to say whether he would seek the White House, focusing instead on an agenda for Illinois.
