Ian Gillan Hospitalized as Deep Purple Cancels German Shows

On October 31, Deep Purple said it would not play its scheduled weekend concerts in Leipzig and Hamburg, Germany, after lead singer Ian Gillan required hospital care because of a health crisis. The band did not share details about his condition. The canceled performances were set for the QI Arena in Leipzig and Sporthalle in Hamburg.

The group said the announcement came at short notice and that it shared fans’ disappointment. Deep Purple is working to find replacement dates for both shows. Tickets already purchased will be honored at the rescheduled performances.

Gillan has previously spoken about having limited eyesight, but he said in a June interview that the issue would not itself make him stop singing. He said he would leave performing when he no longer had the strength or when continuing became embarrassing. The group’s ongoing Splat! world tour is set to continue through the end of the year, followed by a final concert in Gliwice, Poland, in June 2027.
