Jorden Hungerford Sentenced to 40 Years in Gaithersburg Killing

After prison, Hungerford must undergo five years of supervised monitoring. Following a 10-day trial in May, jurors convicted him of murder in the first degree, robbery with a firearm, plotting to carry out a robbery, and a firearm offense. Montgomery County officials announced the sentence on November 6, 2026; the case was prosecuted in the county where the killing occurred.

Gilbert, 20, was found shot in the head inside his car on Brookridge Court. Police found the vehicle against a curb with its engine still running. The killing took place on April 26, 2025.

Court documents said Hungerford used a social media account posing as a female friend to arrange a meeting with Gilbert, after asking to buy $70 worth of marijuana. Hungerford and Brown went to meet Gilbert and robbed him. Brown shot him, the documents said.

Brown, 21, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and received a 45-year prison sentence, followed by five years of supervised release. State’s Attorney John McCarthy said the sentences reflected the county’s refusal to accept deadly gun violence.
