Teen Held Without Bail After Sachem School Stabbing
The 15-year-old was arraigned on November 6, a day after police say he stabbed a fellow student near the student lot at Sachem’s eastern high school campus at about 2 p.m. The 16-year-old was seriously injured, and prosecutors said he was stabbed in the upper chest with a four-inch kitchen knife. Both teens attend the school; their names have not been released because they are minors.
The victim was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital and underwent surgery. Doctors expect him to recover completely.
The accused teen pleaded not guilty to allegations of first-degree assault and illegally possessing a weapon in the fourth degree. A judge ordered him held without bail and issued an Order of Protection. He is due back in court on November 9.
The suspect’s family said the encounter followed a fight at school, and claimed the stabbing was retaliation for bullying. Authorities have not disclosed what sparked the episode, and the investigation is continuing.
The school district said it had no further comment while the case remained under investigation. Suffolk County police increased patrols near the school after the stabbing.
