Netflix Orders Stranger Things Prequel Other Worlds
The new series will tell a story set before the events of Stranger Things and its stage prequel, The First Shadow. A teaser places it in Marion, Nevada, in 1955, while filming is planned for New Mexico. Plot details and casting have not been announced; the show will have a new cast and characters.
Matt and Ross Duffer, creators of the original series, are co-creating the spinoff with Kate Trefry, a Stranger Things writer who also wrote The First Shadow. Trefry will lead the series as showrunner. Joe Wright will direct its first three episodes and serve as an executive producer. The Duffers said the project would bring a new setting and characters while retaining the original show's spirit.
Other Worlds is scheduled to arrive in 2028. It will expand the franchise, which also includes the animated program Stranger Things: Tales from ’85 and the theatrical production The First Shadow. The Duffers will executive produce through Upside Down Pictures, alongside Shawn Levy of 21 Laps and several other producers. Netflix’s Jinny Howe said the series would offer fans another part of the fictional universe.
