Scooter Rider Killed in SUV Collision in North Park

The man was riding a stand-up electric scooter in the 3300 block of West Peterson Avenue when the collision occurred at about 4:35 a.m. on November 6, Chicago police said. The SUV was a Dodge, and police cited its 44-year-old driver for a speed-related violation. One account said the citation was for speeding; another specified failure to reduce speed.

The scooter rider was brought to Evanston’s Saint Francis Hospital, where he was declared dead. His name was not released in the information provided by police.

The Major Accidents Investigation Unit is investigating the collision. It was the second fatal crash involving an electric scooter in Chicago in two days.

Early on November 5, a 39-year-old man riding a stand-up scooter died after a collision with a marked Chicago police vehicle at 32nd Street and Princeton Avenue in Bridgeport. He was brought to Stroger Hospital and declared dead there. The officers were on patrol and traveling north on Princeton Avenue, police said.
