Washington Faces Injury Questions and Penalty Problems Before Rams Game
Treylon Burks missed practice again on November 5 with a foot injury, leaving Washington with one more practice to assess its receivers before facing Los Angeles. Dyami Brown was limited by a calf problem, while Stefon Diggs returned after a rest day. With Terry McLaurin sidelined on injured reserve, Burks’ availability could affect how much the Commanders can challenge a Rams secondary dealing with injuries of its own.
Jer’Zhan Newton practiced fully for a second straight day as he works back from a torn pectoral muscle, but Washington must add him to its active roster before he is eligible to play. Defensive tackle Shy Tuttle remained limited, and the team has added Ricky Barber to its active roster and Daniel Ekuale to its practice squad. Defensive coordinator Daronte Jones said filling in for Daron Payne and Javon Kinlaw will require contributions across the front seven.
Washington’s offense is also trying to address its rough start against Philadelphia. Offensive coordinator David Blough said pre-snap penalties have been damaging, and the Rams’ pass rush will make communication and preparation important. Jones said Los Angeles quarterback Matthew Stafford is quick to recognize pressure and release the ball. Stafford practiced fully on November 5 despite a right elbow issue.
Myles Garrett and tight end Terrance Ferguson were restricted while recovering from injured reserve; each must be activated to play. On the Rams’ defense, Jaylen Watson will miss the rest of the season after shoulder surgery, while Trent McDuffie and Kam Curl remained out of practice. Coach Sean McVay said Josh Wallace and Emmanuel Forbes will take on greater roles in Watson’s absence.
