Commanders’ Defensive Line Faces Fresh Injury Concern

The Washington Commanders’ first Week 9 injury report brought concern for a defensive line already missing both starting tackles, whom the team placed on injured reserve a day earlier. Tuttle was limited in Wednesday’s practice because of a shoulder injury.

Newton practiced fully while continuing his return from a torn pectoral muscle. Washington opened a 21-day practice window for him last week, but he was ruled out against Philadelphia. Coach Dan Quinn said Newton’s progress was encouraging, while stressing the need for another strong week of practice. Newton needs to come off injured reserve to be eligible to face the Rams.

Receiver Treylon Burks missed practice with a foot injury. He had been questionable against Philadelphia but played, leading Washington with 81 yards on three catches, including a 53-yard reception. With Terry McLaurin out for the season, Burks’ availability is important, though Wednesday’s absence does not settle whether he will play Sunday.

Stefon Diggs also sat out, with his absence attributed to rest rather than injury. John Bates, dealing with a shoulder issue, and Sam Cosmi, with a knee issue, were limited. Quarterback Jayden Daniels, whose injury involved his left elbow, and Colson Yankoff, whose issue was a knee, both completed full practices.

Washington’s Thursday injury report is expected to offer a clearer indication of Burks’ and Tuttle’s status before the matchup with Los Angeles.
