Meta rolls out live Muse voice and video chats

Meta has begun offering U.S. users real-time calls with Muse, its consumer AI assistant. The feature pairs spoken replies with an animated avatar that moves and shows expressions while it talks; users can customize the avatar and adjust its voice options or ask Muse to choose a tone.

Meta says the conversations are available on mobile devices, the web and Mac. The system uses new real-time voice and avatar technology, and the company says the avatar’s gestures and expressions are intended to reflect the exchange. Muse can pause during a conversation while it searches for information or handles a request.

The rollout precedes Meta’s planned release of Muse Charm, a small wearable device expected before the end of the year. The assistant’s avatar is designed to appear on the device’s screen, where users can speak with it and ask it to perform tasks. Meta says Muse voice features are also planned for its AI glasses.

The company introduced the video-chat feature at its Connect developer conference in September. Meta AI chief Alexandr Wang shared a demonstration in which his dog-like avatar responded to a joke about his meme posts with a suggestion to add disclaimers to memes that might be mistaken for company endorsements.
